HOW TO MAKE A “ONCE FIRE” CLAY HEAD

Making a clay head or a lot of clay heads is fairly easy.
There are three basic stages:
1. Forming the clay   2.decorating, glazing   3. Firing.

Forming the clay developes small moter skills. Decorating with a brush promotes hand to eye coordination. Firing completes the process and makes the clay permenant.

The creation of human heads with clay has a very long history. A good example can be founnd at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, New York, USA. The “Spout in the form of a man's head”, Parthian; A.D. 1st2nd century,Iran, iron, mica, glaze; H. 20.9 cm.; 11 3/8 inches. You can see it @ www.metmuseum.org
