VISUAL ART ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS |

Essential Learnings are defined as the knowledge and skills critical in a grade level or course. These learnings will comprise approximately 80% of the cirriculum. The number of Learnings is arbitrary; 12 to 24 per year per course or grade level. The key is knowing what a typical student can practice and learn in the time available. Practice over time is necessary to have a concept or skill in long term memory. Essential Learnings are coded to the Sunshine State Standards, Preformance objectives or FARR standards. They are specific for a grade level or course. Teachers are members of a Professional Learning Community. A Professional Learning Community discusses effective methods of teaching the Essential Learnings. Members share ways to engage students. Each student should leave a grade or course proficient in each of the Essential Learnings. Teachers clarify the Essential Learnings by sharing assessments and dicussing student achievement. Essential Learnings will be revised and refined to assure highest student achievement. Teachers are developing common assessments that will establish the effectiveness the Essential Learnings. Identifying students who have not yet mastered the Essential Learnings and assisting them is a primary interest.
