HOW TO DIP CERAMIC GLAZE

We have learned how to dip ceramic glaze. There was a time when we brushed glaze; one layer at a time; two or three times, on our ceramics. Then methodically, moved on to the next piece and on and on...

NOT ANY MORE !!! Now we dip our “ware” in a vat of glaze. It is quick, efficient and economical. red.button.gif

 set drying table
1. SET TABLE

Once you begin dipping, everything seems to go very quickly. Especially, if your are not ready.
1. Set up a table, to put the wet glazed ware on. Cover it with newspaper. Tape down the edges if you are outside.
The tape keeps the wind from blowing the paper onto the wet glaze and... ah...
FOULING IT !!!
Have the pieces sitting on a wire stilts. Leave enough space around each piece to manouver the wet piece back onto the stilt.
DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP !!!
Otherwise, you will have no place to put the first wet piece.
P.S. Check out the BEARS,
they were dipped. red button

ELECTRICALLY MIX
2. ELECTRICALLY MIX

Mix the glaze with an electric drill with a stainless steel “BEATER” head.
It MUST be a stainless steel head because all other metal beaters will rust.
Rust is “iron oxide.” Iron oxide in glaze will make black specks or a black smear on the finisHed piece.
BLACK SPECKS..VERY BAD !!!
You have to spend the extra few bucks for stainless steel. I bought mine in the fall of 1991 [ November ? ] and am quite pleased with it. red button
