Wooden Knives are made for various speciality jobs around the studio, mostly for the potter's wheel.

These wooden knives are all made from red oak wood; 1/4 inch [ 1.5 cm ] by 18 or 24 inch [ 46 cm or 61 cm ] from the home improvement store.
Notice, some have very long points. This is done to cut or trim the bottom 3 inches [ 8cm ] of cylinders from the outside.
P.S. Long wooden knives were used to trim the bottoms of these VASES
